Manchester United have held initial talks with Burnley over midfielder Sander Berge.

According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Reds are exploring the conditions of a deal.

Berge, who has three years left on his contract at Turf Moor, emerged as a surprise target this week amid news that United are willing to step away from their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte.

Sheth also notes that United are also in talks with Ligue 1 outfit Monaco over Youssouf Fofana. The France international, who featured at Euro 2024 earlier this summer, has entered the final 12 months of his contract.

In an update via X, Sheth provided the following update: “Manchester United have held initial talks with Burnley over midfielder Sander Berge. United exploring conditions of a deal. 3 years left on contract. Dialogue open with Monaco over Youssouf Fofana after initial approach. Final year of contract.”

United may rekindle their interest in Ugarte but PSG must reduce their demands for that to happen. INEOS are adamant that they will not be hit by ‘United tax’ in the transfer market, which is an admirable stance to take after watching the club recruit poorly in previous windows.

Meanwhile, South American football expert Tim Vickery thinks United should turn their attention to Fluminense midfielder Andre.
