Manchester United are set to start the new season without Luke Shaw after it was confirmed he faces another spell on the sidelines due to a calf problem, which has stepped up the club’s search for a new left-back, if you believe everything you read.

According to Turkish outlet Sporx, United have ‘tabled an offer’ to sign Fenerbahce left-back Ferdi Kadioglu.

This sounds like an exaggeration based on what has been reported in the UK.

Reports closer to home suggest that United could enter the free agent or loanee market in search for a stop-gap option at left-back. One name suggested is former Chelsea and Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso.

If United are seeking options in a cheaper market, I highly doubt we’ll be able to buy Kadioglu outright when reports elsewhere claim Brighton are pushing hard to sign the left-back.

It is also reported that United have ‘offered the most money’ to sign the defender, but Brighton’s offer is ‘worth more’ due to add-ons.
