Manchester United could be made to wait until transfer deadline day to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The 23-year-old Uruguay international has been heavily with United all summer, with it understood that he is the club’s primary midfield target.
United were unable to sell Casemiro, who Ugarte is likely to replace in the team, but it means we might have cover in the defensive midfield role. A first for Erik ten Hag since moving to Old Trafford.
Unlike other transfers pursued by United this summer, Ugarte’s move has been dragged out because the focus shifted to selling players and more will leave this week.
Napoli and United are in talks over Scott McTominay, while Juventus and Chelsea battle it out for Jadon Sancho’s signature.
According to Football Transfers, United may not complete a deal for Ugarte until Friday which means he isn’t likely to be available to face Liverpool on Sunday due to Premier League registration deadlines.
The outlet claims to have spoken to a source who said United’s deal for Ugarte is not as close as what has been suggested elsewhere.
Only time will tell if Ugarte gets his move to United this week.
