Manchester United academy prospect Jacob Devaney has linked up with the Republic of Ireland U19s ahead of matches against France, Kazakhstan and Slovenia this week.
The news has understandably made Jacob’s father immensely proud as his son takes the next step in his young career.
Martin Devaney, who works as Barnsley’s assistant head coach, took to social media who express how proud his family are of Jacob’s latest milestone. It’s one that the 17-year-old’s grandfather “smiling from above”.
Martin posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “We are delighted. Jacob to represent Ireland. As a family so proud! Grandad will be smiling from above.”

It’s a heartwarming message from Martin, who is a massive United fan as well as a respected football coach.
Jacob has gone from strength to strength at United and now he will get to experience football on the international stage. He trained with Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad last season.
Former Republic of Ireland and United defender Paul McShane is his coach within the academy, which could be a real a real bonus for the youngster.
