Manchester United are keeping tabs on Ivan Toney’s comeback at Brentford ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Toney scored on his Premier League return for Brentford last Saturday after serving an eight-month ban for breaking the Football Association’s betting rules.

The 27-year-old had been heavily linked with a move away from Brentford during the January transfer window, with both Arsenal and Chelsea considering a move for the striker who scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season.

However, with Brentford demanding £80 million for Toney, the striker is expected to stay put until the end of the season.

According to The Athletic, United are monitoring Toney’s situation at Brentford for the remainder of the season with the view to signing a new striker in the summer window.

The report adds that Erik ten Hag remains an admirer of Brian Brobbey, who he managed at Ajax.

The 21-year-old has scored 15 goals in 26 appearances for the Dutch club this season.

Meanwhile Brentford manager Thomas Frank insisted he wanted to keep Toney at the club ‘for as long as possible’.

‘It’s a team he’s really enjoying being part of, with some good mates, enjoying their football together, enjoying playing for Brentford and for the fans,’ Frank said last week.

‘We’ve done everything we can to help him through this. We’d like to keep him, but we know how football is.

‘It’s turning out to be what I would like to say is the right outcome. I’d like to keep him for as long as possible, but that’s not up to me.’
