Manchester United are reportedly making plans to extend Scott McTominay’s contract by a further 12 months.
The midfielder’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2025 but the club are keen to tie him down long-term after a season in which he has thoroughly impressed Erik ten Hag.
McTominay is one of United’s highest goalscorers this term with six to his name – five of which have come in the Premier League – and some have proven game-changing in what’s been a tumultuous period for United.
He often finds himself on the receiving end of criticism from some portions of the fanbase, however, the Scot has done enough in the manager’s eyes to warrant an extension.
McTominay mulling over future at Old Trafford
As per The Sun, there is a chance that McTominay could opt against putting pen to paper as he seeks clarity over whether he’ll be playing a prominent role in the squad for the foreseeable years.
A source said: “Scott is at the stage of his career where he wants to be playing football week in, week out. If he can be assured that he will get that at Manchester United then there’s no club in the world he’d rather be at, and he’ll stay for many years.”
The 27-year-old, who is a Carrington graduate, was said to be closing on a move to West Ham United last summer before a transfer failed to materialise, as was recent injury returnee Harry Maguire, however, the pair are now deemed crucial to Ten Hag’s plans and fall in line with INEOS’ plans to promote homegrown/British talent.
