Manchester United are reportedly pursuing Juventus star Gleison Bremer on the recommendation of incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth.

Ashworth looks set to become United’s first-ever sporting director after being put on gardening leave by Newcastle United – though the two clubs are yet to agree on a compensation package.

Nevertheless, he is supposedly already having a say on their transfer policy in what will be a huge summer for the club as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to get them back on track.

According to reports from Italy, via the Daily Express, Bremer is on the Red Devils’ shortlist and they have been tracking the centre-back for months.

And they will now pursue the Brazil international after Ashworth gave the green light for them to do so.

United are confident they can get a deal done and have already informed Juventus that they are willing to pay up to £43million to acquire his services.

The Serie A giants want between £50-60m but may be forced to accept a lower offer as they need to sell players in order to ease their financial issues.

Bremer joined Juventus two years ago for around £38m, and has been named in the last two Serie A Team of the Years, winning the league’s Best Defender award while playing for Torino in 2022.

The 27-year-old has just three caps for Brazil but could be in action against some of his future United teammates when the Selecao take on England in a friendly on Satutday.

United are in the market for a new centre-back with Raphael Varane expected to leave Old Trafford on a free in the summer with the club not planning to renew his contract.
