Away from the spotlight and negative publicity in England, Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has been performing very well on loan at Getafe.

The Manchester United academy graduate was involved in a major controversy not very long ago, having been under investigation for rape and assault, but those charges were dropped and the investigation closed.

However, with no way back into the Manchester United first-team setup, Greenwood landed at Getafe on a season-long loan. Since arriving in Spain, the 22-year-old has netted five goals and set up four more in 19 matches.

Considering that Getafe might be unable to afford his transfer fee to sign him permanently in the summer, there have been links to clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.

Greenwood ‘dreaming’ of Barcelona

Now, according to reports in England, as relayed by the Express, Greenwood himself dreams of signing for Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

Valencia and Real Sociedad are also keeping tabs on the Manchester United loanee’s situation, but it is Barça who are believed to have the edge in the race, due to the player’s wishes.

The Red Devils are keeping their options open and even turned down £40 million from Getafe as they continue to deliberate over his future. There have been discussions about bringing Greenwood back into the fold at Old Trafford, but a final decision has yet to be made.

And, as per the report, Barça are hoping that it does not turn out to be the case and the forward ends up in Catalonia in the summer.

If a move to Barcelona were to materialise, the report suggests that there would be a lot of add-on clauses included in the operation depending on the number of matches he plays for the club and also possibly the England national team.

For now, these claims need to be taken with a grain of salt and it remains to be seen if there is any interest on Barcelona’s part in signing Greenwood.
