Manchester United will demand at least £80 million from Chelsea if they reignite their interest in Kobbie Mainoo this summer, according to reports.

Chelsea have been keeping tabs on Mainoo’s situation at Old Trafford with the midfielder’s current contract due to expire in 2027, although United have the option to extend it by a further year.

United were willing to sell Alejandro Garnacho in the January transfer window with both Chelsea and Napoli holding talks over a deal for the Argentine winger.

According to The Guardian, United remain open to offloading Garnacho at the end of the season and will also be prepared to sell Mainoo if they receive an acceptable offer.

The report claims that United will hold out for a £70m fee for Garnacho, while offers in excess of £80m will be considered for Mainoo.

It’s claimed that United’s concerns over the Premier League’s profit under profit and sustainability rules (PSR) mean that their activity will be restricted in the summer window and player sales will be required in order to significantly strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad with new signings.

Patrick Dorgu was United’s only major signing in the January transfer window as the 20-year-old versatile wing-back joined in a €35 million (£29.2m) deal from Serie A side Lecce.

United also completed a deal worth around £1.5m to sign 18-year-old defender Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.

United were able to trim their wage bill as they offloaded both Marcus Rashford and Antony on loan.

Aston Villa are covering 75 per cent of Rashford’s £325,000-a-week salary, while Real Betis are paying a minimum of 84% of Antony’s £150,000-a-week wage.
