Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi as a possible Erik ten Hag replacement should they make the call to end the Dutchamn’s reign at Old Trafford.

Speculation is rife on Erik ten Hag’s future despite reports emerging that the Manchester United board are currently backing the Dutchman, with the expectation that he will be in charge for this week’s fixtures against FC Porto and Aston Villa.

However, a poor performance in a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur added to his woes, with the former Ajax boss looking like he is on thin ice in Manchester.

The Red Devils currently sit 12th in the Premier League with only seven points from a possible 18.

Manchester United have not scored at Old Trafford in the League since their opening-day win against Fulham in August.

Ten Hag will need to quickly steer his side to better performances and results if he wants to remain in charge of the Red Devils.

Manchester United target Simone Inzaghi as possible Erik ten Hag replacement

With pressure mounting on the 56-year-old coach, it is not unlikely that the United board are looking at contingency plans to replace Ten Hag.

the new INEOS-led structure at Old Trafford is currently publicly backing the manager, but it remains to be seen how long it last if an uptake in results doesn’t occur swiftly.

The Red Devils are reportedly looking at Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi as a managerial candidate.

The Italian manager won Serie A in 2024 and was a Champions League runner-up in 2023.

According to the Daily Star, Simone Inzaghi has emerged as a serious contender to become the next Manchester United boss if Erik ten Hag is sacked.

Chief Sports Writer Jeremy Cross writes: “Ratcliffe knows United are treading water under the Dutchman, and would target Inzaghi along with Gareth Southgate if he decided to make a change. Southgate has a lot of admirers at United and is close friends with Ashworth.

“But United bosses have also been impressed with the job Inzaghi has done since taking charge of Inter Milan in 2021. Inzaghi has won five trophies with the Italian giants, including the Serie A title last season.”
