Manchester United midfielder Casemiro reveals that his former manager Carlo Ancelotti cried ahead of his Real Madrid departure in 2022.

After winning a fifth Champions League crown at Madrid, Casemiro was sold to United and had a great influence on Erik ten Hag’s side last season.

The Brazilian has not been able to replicate those performances this season due to a combination of injuries and poor form. This has led to questions over whether Casemiro should be moved on in the summer.

On Thursday night, Casemiro appeared on Spanish television and reminisced about his farewell at Madrid.

“I had won everything,” Casemiro told El Chiringuito, as cited by Spanish newspaper Marca. “It’s not that I wasn’t going to keep pushing, but I wanted new things. They didn’t let me leave so easily, but I wanted to learn a new language, play in another league. United behaved very well from day one.

“I decided to leave a little after winning the Champions League. I already saw that my time at Madrid was over. I was at a good age to leave, I wanted to continue growing. The decision was not easy at all, people loved me a lot.”

He continued to explain how Ancelotti’s reaction to the news made him doubt his decision to swap Madrid for Manchester.

“It was a Friday and everything was done,” Casemiro added. “I had to train but I didn’t, the only thing missing was my signature.

“I went to talk to Ancelotti and he already knew I was leaving. I entered his office, he turned around and was crying. Carlo told me that he didn’t want me to leave, that he loved me a lot…”

There was no turning back for Casemiro at this point because he had already given United his word.

It was a good week for Real Madrid as they knocked Man City out of the Champions League to reach the semi-finals of Europe’s biggest competition. One Madrid fan left the Etihad Stadium with an honest rant about City fans.

I think we all enjoyed watching them win the penalty shootout on Wednesday night.
