Manchester United drew 1-1 with FC Twente as the 2024/25 Europa League campaign started on Wednesday night.
It was yet another underwhelming outing for Erik ten Hag’s side who continue to struggle in Europe.
The Reds threw away two points from a winning position and missed plenty of chances in the progress.
Christian Eriksen, who scored United’s only goal in the first half, was at fault for Twente’s equaliser along with Harry Maguire with both players making schoolboy errors at a crucial moment of the game.
However, it’s a night for everyone to take responsibility, including the manager.
New signing Manuel Ugarte hasn’t shied away from that by taking to social media to share some criticism of his own performance.
Ugarte wrote: “The first to make self-criticism. It wasn’t a great match personally. We have to keep working.”
The Uruguay international had his worst performance in a United shirt yet, completing 59/73 passes.
Ugarte will be expected to perform a lot better on Sunday when United take on Tottenham in the Premier League.
