Manchester United star needed to step up but was invisible against Fulham, says pundit

Manchester United needed Marcus Rashford to step up in the absence of Rasmus Hojlund for the game against Fulham, but he was nowhere to be seen, according to Garth Crooks.

Rashford is not having the best season for Man Utd, with a big drop off in his performances after hitting such dizzying heights last term, and it’s perhaps a concern just how quickly the Red Devils have really started to rely on Danish youngster Hojlund to deliver the goods up front.

Discussing Rashford’s latest struggles in his BBC Sport column, Crooks was pretty damning with his comments about the England international and his lack of impact in what ended up being yet another disappointing defeat for Erik ten Hag’s side this season.

“With no Rasmus Hojlund in the mix due to injury it needed Marcus Rashford to step up to the challenge but he was nowhere to be seen,” Crooks said.

Does Ten Hag need to drop Rashford?

Crooks also suggested that if United want things to improve, it may require Ten Hag getting rid of this current crop of players, or else it’s surely going to be the Dutch tactician being shown the door.

Marcus Rashford and Erik ten Hag

“If Manchester United players lack inspiration why don’t they leave? Or better still Erik ten Hag gets rid of them. If not, as sure as night follows day, Manchester United will get rid of him,” the pundit said.

Rashford is the kind of big name that might be difficult to drop, however, let alone sell.

United were recently taken over by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has sporting control after purchasing 25% of the club, so fans will hope this can be the start of a promising new era.

It will take time, however, with so many issues for Ten Hag to deal with in this current squad, and still no sporting director in place under the new ownership.
