Unflattering stories pile out of dressing rooms when results aren’t good on the pitch at most clubs, but it happens tenfold at Manchester United. This won’t be anything new for manager Erik ten Hag as he’s seen it all before.

The latest report doing the rounds from the press is that Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes may have had his head elsewhere in the summer.

Well, his focus was on Euro 2024, but in terms of club football ESPN has been told that Fernandes was prepared to leave Old Trafford ahead of the season after growing tired of the club’s repeated failure to deliver.

This means Fernandes wasn’t fully satisfied with the FA Cup triumph United won back in May towards the end of the 2023/24 season. It marked a second trophy in as many years for Erik ten Hag following a six-year silverware drought at the club.

Fernandes did not win any trophies at United before Ten Hag was appointed and the manager has explained on countless occasions that we’re in transition.

It’s important to keep your best players when in transition, but if someone wants out of the club, it’s usually best to help them on their way.

In the public eye, Fernandes has remained faithful to United and always stated that he loves playing for the club. He didn’t push for a move in the summer, so it’s important to note that this claim comes from two sources that have spoken to ESPN.

The Portuguese Magnificio, who is expected to start in today’s game against Brentford, eventually stayed a signed a new contract after, according to one source, “the club panicked and gave him a massive new deal.”

I can’t help but wonder if this is just a matter of agent talk in the background because Fernandes’ representatives were trying to get a new deal in the summer.
