Manchester United teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo is set to be rewarded following his remarkable breakthrough season with a new deal at Old Trafford – but talks over a new deal with resume after Euro 2024.
According to the Daily Star, Mainoo will sign a new deal with United following the European Championships this summer.
The 19-year-old has been a silver lining in an extremely difficult season for United, and he capped it off by scoring a stunning goal to win the FA Cup against Man City at Wembley.
Of course, Mainoo was one of two United academy graduates to score in the 2024 FA Cup final, after Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring in the first-half.
Jeremy Cross reports: “Mainoo has agreed to the offer in principle, but wants to put negotiations on hold until the Euro finals have taken place in Germany this season.”
Mainoo is already in the provisional England squad for Euro 2024, with Wayne Rooney suggesting that he could have a role to play ahead of an experienced England international in midfield.
England have two warm-up games against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland coming up before heading to Germany for the Euros on June 10.
It’s understandable that contract talks would be put on hold to allow Mainoo focus on his international commitments. He has had an incredible season and United are not worried about his next deal.
Mainoo is a player the manager should consider building the team around. The sky is the limit for him.
