Manchester United have spent most of January loaning out academy products, but it remains to be seen if any players will come in.

We are not expecting to see anyone brought in permanently. I think it will be a loan deal or two at the very most because INEOS are only getting their foot in the door and need to properly assess the situation over the coming months.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are still keeping an eye on the market as we enter the final week of the transfer window.

The club are not ruling out any incomings but stress it would need to be ‘exceptionally economic’ to change their plan. It is also suggested that Anthony Martial’s 10-week injury lay-off will have had a bearing on this approach.

INEOS aside, though, when I look at the current squad I can’t help but feel we need to be doing everything we can to bring in at least a striker to reinforce Erik ten Hag’s attacking department for the second half of the season.

A centre forward was needed prior to Martial’s injury but it is now crucial that we have a back-up option to Rasmus Hojlund.

However, it can be difficult to get the right deal in January. Not everyone you sign midway through the season has the same impact as Bruno Fernandes when he joined from Sporting Lisbon.
