Manchester United have submitted an offer to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The Uruguay international turned down a move to Chelsea last summer in order to move to the French capital in a £51.1m move.
However, after starting the season as a regular under Luis Enrique, Ugarte found himself sidelined in the second half of the campaign.
The Ligue 1 giants are now open to offers for the 23-year-old and United are keen on signing a new midfielder, with Casemiro likely to leave the club.
According to L’Equipe, that has seen United make an undisclosed offer for Ugarte that PSG have rejected.
However, the French club have made it clear that negotiations remain ‘open’ and they are willing to listen to improved offers for the former Sporting Lisbon star.
United are yet to make a signing this summer, but central midfield is one area of priority.
The club have had a £43m bid for Jarrod Branthwaite turned down by Everton, though they’re likely to submit an improved bid in the coming days.
Casemiro, 32, is likely to leave after his poor displays last term.
Clubs in Saudi Arabia have shown interest in the Brazilian, who was not selected for Brazil’s Copa America squad.
United are keen to shift Casemiro, who is their top earner on £350,000-a-week.
