Barcelona have faced roadblocks in the departures of Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati, both of whom were seen as potential candidates to leave to make way for a new winter signing.

The club’s idea, after all, has been to reinforce the attack with Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United star has had a falling out with the Old Trafford-based side and is looking for a loan move for six months.

With Garcia and Fati’s exits now looking unlikely, Barcelona will not have sufficient economic space to sign Rashford it appears. If reports from SPORT are to be believed, Manchester United are not making it any easier either.

No compromise

Rashford currently earns €18 million per season, implying that he is owed close to €9 million in wages between now and the end of the season.

His employers are willing to let go of him on loan but will not take over the responsibility of paying any of his wages as relayed by the Spanish outlet. They see that it is Rashford who is pushing for an exit, thus negating any need for compromise on their part.

Any team who wish to sign him, thus, must assume the entire salary on their shoulders and Barcelona currently do not have the bandwidth to accommodate such high figures.

A move can work out if the player agrees to compromise on his wages and take a pay cut as Barcelona can only accommodate €3 million (net) as it stands.

Given the difference between their space and Rashford’s expectations, an agreement is unlikely.

The two parties are in contact and it remains to be seen if any arrangement can be worked out. Rashford prioritises playing for Barcelona over the other offers on his table and must make serious compromises if he wishes for his dream to come true.
