Manchester United are considering a move for West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez, according to reports.
United are in the market for a new central midfielder with Casemiro expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer transfer window.
Alvarez, meanwhile, has just finished his first season at West Ham following his £35 million move from Ajax last summer.
Erik ten Hag, who has been kept in place as Manchester United manager by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, worked with Alvarez for three seasons at Ajax.
And according to Fabrizio Romano, United have discussed the prospect of signing Alvarez this summer with Ten Hag still a keen admirer of the 26-year-old.
Alvarez, who came close to joining Chelsea in 2022 before Ajax halted the £51m deal, is currently training with Mexico and is set to captain his national side for the upcoming Copa America.
Mexico begin their tournament with a group-stage match against Jamaica on June 23.
Meanwhile, United are open to selling Casemiro as part of a number of departures which will be aimed at boosting their summer transfer budget.
The 32-year-old, who has come under fire for his performances this season, was signed in a £70m deal from Real Madrid in August 2022.
United have also registered their interest in signing Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, but the Portugal international has made it clear that he wants to join Bayern Munich after narrowly missing out on a move to the Bundesliga club last year.
