Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with a big-money move away from Everton to the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham and Real Madrid, with former club Carlisle set to cash in if he does leave Goodison Park.

The 21-year-old has become a key player for Everton this season under Sean Dyche, making 26 appearances in all competitions.

He made the huge step up from League Two to the Premier League in January 2020 and after loan spells at Blackburn and PSV, he has now established himself as a top flight performer.

He is being touted as a possible signing for clubs as big as Manchester United and Real Madrid, with figures up to £100m being suggested for his signature.

The giant centre-back started his career at hometown club Carlisle and the Cumbrians will be hoping he goes for as much money as possible if and when he does leave Everton.

Carlisle have produced players such as Dean Henderson and James Trafford in recent years, selling them to Manchester United and Manchester City respectively, and chief executive Nigel Clibbens says the Branthwaite deal would be even more worthwhile to them.

‘We’ve been receiving money from the sale of Jarrad basically ever since the first game he played,’ Clibbens told the News and Star. ‘We receive ongoing payments based on the appearances he makes. That will continue for some time if he stays at Everton.

‘Sell-on percentages – I can’t tell you what it is. Put simply, all these deals are very confidential on those kinds of matters. But I’ve said in the past, whereas the deals for [James] Trafford and [Dean] Henderson, the sell-ons for those weren’t transformational for the club.

‘If Jarrad continues to develop and goes for the sort of money the media are speculating about, that would bring a significant amount of money into this club which would allow it to deliver on the plans that we need to do.’

Speaking about interest in Branthwaite in December, Dyche said: ‘Look, we’ve all seen this before,” Dyche told reporters on Friday. “A young player comes into the Premier League, does great and then all these stories start. It is a standard process so I am not worried about that.

‘He does continue to improve but I will remind you there is no gold dust from me or my staff. We do not want to get in the way of the improvement.

‘He is coming along at a really nice rate. You can coach things into players they do not need. For me, it is just to keep on enjoying it.’
