Manchester United are keen to land Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer and are willing to offer Harry Maguire as part of the deal.

The 21-year-old made his Toffees debut back in 2020 but has really established himself as a first team regular this season and attracted a lot of interest in the process.

The former Carlisle United man has played 38 games in all competitions this season, scoring three goals, and earning his first call-up into the senior England squad.

Branthwaite will have some very attractive options in front of him this summer, with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City linked with a move for him.

Manchester United are very keen on the young centre-back and are plotting how to come up with the most attractive deal for both Everton and the player.

The defender could cost more than £70m and the Red Devils are keen to bring that price down if possible, with the Daily Star reporting that they could throw Maguire into the deal.

The England centre-back only has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford, but the club reportedly believe that adding him into a deal could knock at least £20m off Branthwaite’s price tag.

Maguire would obviously have to agree to the move to Goodison Park, which is no guarantee, after turning down a switch to West Ham last summer.

It appeared that Maguire’s future at Manchester United was pretty bleak at that point, but the 31-year-old has turned things around somewhat.

Thanks to injuries to the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, Maguire has been involved more than expected over this campaign, making 31 appearances in all competitions.

If the Red Devils can sign Branthwaite, though, Maguire would slide back down the pecking order.
