Manchester United are reportedly hoping to appoint Dan Ashworth as the club’s next sporting director.

A report from INews claims that Manchester United will have to pay significant compensation for the Newcastle man and they could shell out in the region of £6 million.

Manchester United have been quite mediocre with their transfer business in recent years and they have spent substantial amounts of money on mediocre players. They will need to bring in a quality sporting director who can help them bring in better value for money.

Ashworth has done an impressive job at Newcastle and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for the Red Devils. Manchester United have not been able to compete for titles despite spending more than any other English club in recent seasons.

They will need to transform the recruitment department in order to compete at the highest level once again.

Dan Ashworth of Newcastle

Sir Jim Ratcliffe who is acquiring a 25% stake in the Premier League club is keen on a structural overhaul of the football operations. Ashworth is a priority target for INEOS. Manchester United have recently persuaded Omar Berrada to join them as the club’s chief executive from Manchester City as well.

It is evident that INEOS are keen to get the Manchester United hierarchy in order first.

It will be interesting to see if Ashworth can help Manchester United put together an impressive squad during the summer transfer window so they can compete for major trophies next season.
