Manchester United have been told that in order to replicate a significant Sir Alex Ferguson signing, they must sign Son Heung-min from Tottenham.
2012–13 was the last Premier League season that Manchester United won the league title, and it was also the season that Sir Alex Ferguson managed his last professional football match.
After more than a decade since then, United have only been able to maintain it’s trophy winning streak with knockout tournament titles like the FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup (twice).
However, major trophies like the Premier League and Champions League look like a far fetched dream right now.
The Red Devils have been linked with a number of players this month; Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Al-Ittihad’s Karim Benzema and Brentford’s Ivan Toney to name a few.
Erik ten Hag’s team lacks goals and the club aims to address this issue either this month or in the summer transfer window.
Former United striker Dwight Yorke believes that the club should be targeting Tottenham star Son Heung-min or someone like him.
“I wouldn’t describe Rasmus Højlund as useless as I feel for the kid, and I know he arrived under very difficult circumstances. He probably has the potential, but he has nobody around him to teach him. There isn’t too much experience in this side,” Yorke told Footy Accumulators.
“I’m not going to point any fingers at Rasmus, and I’d never describe any professional player as useless, let alone a United one.
“Karim Benzema would offer a boatload of experience, but the club has already tried that strategy with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani. This approach works OK, as these players still have the occasional moment of magic in them, but that’s not where United need to be. They need to buy players like Son – players who can make a difference to your team.
“Sometimes signing older players works, and sometimes it doesn’t. Sir Alex knew what he was doing by bringing in Van Persie as he had so much experience in football. Van Persie wasn’t a surprise to anyone as we all knew what he was capable of.”
Van Persie helped United to win the league title as he won the Premier League Golden Boot award for his outstanding season with the club.
