United released a brief statement which included an image with the caption 'Good Luck, Jadon Sancho'.
The Red Devils concluded: "The England international of 23 caps leaves with our best wishes for the remainder of this season."
Sancho said: "When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like 'coming home'. I know the club inside and out, I've always been very close with the fans here, and I've never lost contact with those in charge.
“I can’t wait to see my teammates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League."
Sancho spent four brilliant seasons at Dortmund where he established himself as one of the brightest talents in world football.
He won the DFB-Pokal in the 2020/21 season, alongside Erling Haaland, and went on to score 50 goals in 137 appearances for the club.
Sancho was also twice named in the Bundesliga team of the season while at the club.

He has played just three times this season and will finally get his chance to return to action in Germany.
