A great hope for La Masia, Marc Guiu left Catalonia on Monday to sign with Chelsea for 6 million euros, the price of his release clause. In the uncertainty regarding his future after Xavi’s departure, Guiu did not receive the guarantees he had hoped for from his training club and chose to join England. However, as indicated by the World SportsFC Barcelona were prepared to make concessions to keep their 18-year-old striker.

According to the Spanish media, Barça had offered him a salary of 2 million euros while promising him a place in the first team if he played more than 50% of the matches as a starter with the reserve team. The Blaugranas also promised to loan him one of his competitors for the position, in the person of Vitor Roque. Clearly not enough for the center forward who scored 2 goals in 7 appearances for the pros and was promised playing time upon his arrival at the Blues.
