Marcus Rashford has responded to criticism about his celebration after scoring Manchester United’s second goal in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham.

The 26 took his tally of goal contributions in his last four appearances to four at the weekend, but United were unfortunately unable to secure three points. Rashford also played a key role in Rasmus Hojlund’s early opener.

On another note, it has been a difficult campaign for Rashford and there is never a shortage of criticism directed at United’s star.

After scoring on Sunday, Rashford celebrated his goal by gesturing a mouth with his hand, and ex-club captain Roy Keane was rightly critical afterwards. The former Republic of Ireland international said (via Sky Sports): “I don’t know what that is all about. We need to see more; he’s shown it before, and he’s got the quality. Why does he seem to be upset with everybody? He’s got to go and enjoy it he[s playing for Man United.”

A number of United fans believed the celebration showed Rashford trying to shut up the critics who have rightly questioned his form this season. If he is honest with himself, he’ll admit his performances this season haven’t been good enough – but he’s not alone.

Rashford has clarified that his celebration was aimed at the abuse he received and those who questioned his commitment after commenting on Jadon Sancho’s recent Instagram post.

One fan gave his take on X, writing:  “He’s clearly referring to the abuse he’s been subjected to this week since he commented on Sancho’s post. They literally questioned his loyalty and commitment to us, and he did shut them up by scoring AND assisting. If he didn’t score, he’s sh*te, if he does it’s this BS smh.”

Rashford responded to the post, saying: “Thank you for clarifying this matter.”

Thank you for clarifying this matter.
