Mariah Carey reflects on a ‘couple of rough weeks’ after her mother and sister’s deaths

Mariah Carey spoke out about her recent “rough weeks” after her mom, Patricia Carey, and sister, Alison Carey, unexpectedly died on the same day.

The “Fantasy” singer took to Instagram Sunday to check in with her fans as she shared a clip of herself rehearsing her 2005 hit “It’s Like That.”

“Back at work,” she captioned the video. “It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China & Brazil. Love you! ❤️❤️❤️.”

Mariah, 55, seemingly took some time off after she was left “heartbroken” when her mom and sister passed away last month.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” she shared in a statement to People on Aug. 26. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

The “Touch My Body” singer added, “I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed.”

Mariah, meanwhile, reportedly didn’t see her older sister before she died at the age of 63 despite knowing she was very sick.

Alison’s pal David Baker gave the US Sun an insight into the siblings’ relationship, alleging the five-time Grammy winner “never tried to contact” Alison when she entered hospice care weeks before she passed away.

“A phone call or, better still, a video call would have meant so much to Alison. But it never came,” Baker said.

Baker claimed that Alison was “unhappy” that her younger sister “cut off contact with her” and didn’t try to reconcile.

“She talked about it frequently. She wondered if Mariah or any of her relatives would come to her funeral,” he told the outlet.

Mariah has another sibling, brother Morgan Carey, though he and the pop star are also estranged.

The “Obsessed” singer got candid about her complicated relationship with her older siblings in her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey.”

In the book, she alleged Alison struggled with alcohol addiction and her brother was physically abusive to their mom.

The allegations led to Morgan and Alison suing Mariah for defamation.
