Mariah May wants the AEW Women’s division to be as strong as it can be as she prepares to face Thunder Rosa.
The AEW Women’s Champion has been regularly featured in main events since her debut last year. She hitched her wagon to then-champion Toni Storm, eventually taking the belt from her at Wembley Stadium in August.
As she prepares to face Thunder Rosa at AEW World’s End, Mariah May has some strong opinions about the state of the AEW Women’s Division.
Mariah May recently spoke with Jim Varsallone of the Miami Herald. She discussed the AEW Women’s division, revealing she wants it to be as strong as it can be, reasoning that there’s no point ruling if there’s nobody to rule over. She added that she hopes she makes Thunder Rosa’s dad cry after she beats her in a Tijuana Street Fight at AEW World’s End.
Mariah May: There’s No Point Ruling If There’s No One To Rule Over
“I absolutely want us to have the strongest division. There’s no point in ruling over something if there’s no one to rule over. For me, every single new addition to the roster, every time somebody elevates their game, anytime one of the girls achieves something outside of wrestling in another promotion, creates history, or does something incredible—it’s a win for all of us in that locker room.” Said Mariah May.
“It’s a chance for us to prove that we can be the main event. We deserve more time. We can take over.” Mariah May said.” We can be just as entertaining as the men. We can sell just as much merch, make the ratings, and sell the tickets.”
“I want the division to be as good as possible. I’ve always said, as the champion, I want competition. I’ve asked, begged, and pleaded for competition. That’s what I want.”
“I hope Thunder brings it to me. A street fight seems to be her speciality. I hope she brings her best game—her dad’s going to be in the front row, and I can’t wait to end her career right in front of him. I really hope he cries—it’ll add a little bit of cinema to what we’re doing. But the better this division is, the better it is for me—because I’m at the top of it.” Mariah May added.
