Mariah May has had a meteoric rise to the top of the AEW Women’s Division. By winning the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament, she punched her ticket to AEW All In. There, she will challenge her former friend and mentor Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship. May previously rose to prominence in STARDOM before she signed with AEW.

While speaking to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Mariah May stated that jumping from Japan to America and changing wrestling promotions was scary. However, she noted that she needed to do so if she wanted to become a star.

“Change is definitely scary,” she said. ” It’s even scarier as an adult. I always knew what I wanted to do–be the best women’s wrestler in the world. In order to do that and become a star, I needed to come to America.”

May also mentioned that AEW is the perfect place for her to grow and shine in the business.

“I can grow and shine at All Elite Wrestling. It’s the perfect place for me to take over women’s wrestling.”

Mariah May was interested in the storyline and character Tony Khan had pitched for her

While speaking in the same interview, May shared that her favorite part of wrestling is the storylines. She also revealed that she was instantly invested in Tony Khan’s pitch for her story with Storm.

“I was so interested in the story that Tony told me,” Mariah May said. “My favorite part of wrestling is the storyline, and this was an amazing storyline. I was immediately invested.”

With coming to her current character, May shared that she was a fan of the old black-and-white films and thus this character was right in her wheelhouse.

May is set to be a part of the August 14 episode of AEW Dynamite, as a Mariah May film will premiere on the show.
