The wrestling industry has been shaken by grave allegations against Vince McMahon, a divisive figure in the realm of sports entertainment. As discussions and controversies persist regarding McMahon, particularly concerning allegations of trafficking, Martha Hart has publicly denounced McMahon as the epitome of depravity.
On January 25th, Janel Grant, a former WWE staff member, initiated legal proceedings against WWE, John Laurinaitis, and Vince McMahon, alleging incidents of sexual assault, emotional abuse, and sex trafficking dating back to March 2019. These allegations have cast a dark shadow over McMahon’s reputation and sparked widespread condemnation within the industry.
Martha Hart, widow of the late WWE star Owen Hart, spoke with NewsNation’s Ashleigh Banfield regarding her thoughts on the Vince McMahon sex trafficking lawsuit. Despite some reluctance, she felt compelled to contribute to such an important discussion. Given the history of legal challenges and negative publicity surrounding the organisation, Hart expressed no surprise upon hearing about yet another lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE. After thoroughly reviewing the complaint, she described its contents as truly horrifying, emphasizing the egregious level of wrongdoing outlined within.
“I was a little reluctant to come on, but I thought it’s such an important topic that I just wanted to be able to contribute to that. No, I was not surprised when I heard there was yet another lawsuit (against Vince McMahon & WWE). Over the years, the WWE they’ve had many lawsuits and they’ve had a lot of bad press. I tell you, I read all of the 67 pages in that complaint, and it is absolutely horrific. I have to say that the level of wickedness that’s described is beyond the pale in that complaint, and anyone with a shred of humanity would find the indignant act just incomprehensible, frankly. So, it wasn’t a shock that there was another lawsuit, but the level of, I guess, depravity there certainly was, and I’m a doctor in mental health.”
As a mental health professional and the founder of the Owen Hart Foundation, Hart stressed the importance of protecting and supporting vulnerable individuals, condemning those who exploit them. She highlighted the vulnerability of the plaintiff, Janel Grant, emphasizing her difficult circumstances and the need for compassion and protection for individuals in similar situations.
”I’m also the founder and director of the Owen Hart Foundation, so no matter what hat I’m wearing, I always work with at-risk people. I can tell you that it’s the — anyone that takes advantage of a vulnerable person is the most despicable type of person because these are people that need to be supported and protected, not exploited and by Janel Grant’s own admission, she was a vulnerable person. She was unemployed, her parents had passed away, she was suffering with grief, and she was also just on the cusp of financial collapse. So these are all the makings of a very vulnerable person.”
Vince McMahon also no longer has any vocal supporters in WWE. As allegations against McMahon continue to emerge, the future of the WWE chairman hangs in uncertainty. With diminishing support from within the company, McMahon confronts a formidable challenge in grappling with the fallout of these damning accusations.
