As part of its 85th anniversary celebration, Marvel has released a 52-minute video showcasing 85 of the MCU‘s most memorable moments in chronological order. Take a look, below:
Beginning with the creation of Captain America and ending with Loki sacrificing himself for the fate of the multiverse (and therefore re-canonizing his death at hands of Thanos in Infinity War, so it’s like nothing in his solo series ever happened!), the video handpicks 85 moments from just about every Marvel project currently recognized by Disney.
While some may contest just how “iconic” a few of these scenes truly are (two separate instances of a bus being cut in half across two different films are included—it’s either one or none, guys), we do get Peggy Carter pawing Steve Roger’s bulging new pectoral muscles, as well as Drax and Mantis kidnapping Kevin Bacon, so all is forgiven.
If nothing else, the video is an interesting refresher on what (as of this writing) the MCU does and does not regard as “canon.” While the video pays tribute to several of Marvel’s more recent, less popular offerings (Secret Wars, The Eternals, Ms. Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Thor: Love & Thunder, etc.), it omits clips from from Marvel’s various pre-Disney TV series’ entirely, snubbing Agents of SHIELD, Peggy Carter, The Inhumans, Cloak & Dagger, The Runaways, Helstrom, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders. This year’s billion-dollar Deadpool & Wolverine is also MIA from the countdown, as well as any other projects produced by Sony.
So, did your favorite MCU moments make the top 85? What scenes do you feel were overlooked? Was the Hulk extolling the virtues of spandex to She-Hulk really the best moment from that series, let alone of the entirely of the 17-year multimedia event? Let us know in the comments.
