Mason Greenwood has made his final appearance for Getafe this season as the La Liga season came to an end for the Spanish outfit on Sunday.

Greenwood joined Getafe on the final day of last summer’s transfer window and he quickly became one of the leagues outstanding players, earning the praise of some of his rivals and even the La Liga president.

Greenwood’s exit came after Manchester United announced that he would not continue his career at the club and that a departure had been agreed mutually.

A season-long loan at Getafe was the outcome but now, a full season later, he is a player with high demand and Serie A clubs are circling for his signature.

Greenwood played the entire 90 minutes on Sunday as Getafe lost against Mallorca and after the game, the winger issued a statement addressing his supporters.

“Incredibly grateful to the Getafe family and fans for an amazing season, Thank you for making me feel welcomed and one of your own. I enjoyed every second, alongside my teammates and club,” Greenwood wrote on Instagram.

“A bitter sweet ending, but it was a pleasure to play for you, I wish you all the best.”

From United’s viewpoint, Greenwood will be viewed as one of the high-value assets United can sell to raise funds for incoming transfers.

INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be keen on pressing ahead with a widespread overhaul of the squad but it is accepted that sales must also be prioritised to allow that.

Jadon Sancho is another player that United could cash in on as his future with manager Erik ten Hag remains damaged.
