Mason Greenwood is reluctant to play for Manchester United again.
The Manchester United forward, who is currently on loan at Getafe, has been subject to lots of speculation.
It is understood that several teams, including Barcelona, are tracking Greenwood’s performances in Spain, where has scored seven goals and registered five assists in 25 matches.
We also know that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos Sports group will be taking a fresh look into Greenwood’s case.
The 22-year-old had been subject to an internal club investigation following a decision by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to drop its case against Greenwood for attempted rape, assault, and coercive control after a key witness withdrew their statements from the investigation.
Greenwood has always denied the accusations.
When Ratcliffe met with reporters recently, Manchester United’s new co-owner left the door open for a potential return, but it doesn’t sound like the player is keen to come back.
According to The Athletic, Greenwood would be reluctant to accept a return to United, even if one was offered. It is understood that he has no great desire to play for the club again because he feels United could have supported him better over his case.
There would be significant backlash from supporters if Greenwood was brought back, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is making him feel reluctant towards the club he spent his earlier years at, but we shouldn’t speculate…
The Athletic add that the likeliest outcome is Greenwood joining a La Liga club. Getafe will hope they can keep him, but that may depend on whether Barcelona make him an offer.
Greenwood is under contract at United until 2025, with a club option for an additional year.
