The Zamfara State House of Assembly has removed its Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki, from office and appointed Bashar Gummi as the interim speaker.

The decision was prompted by a motion presented by Nasiru Abdullahi, representing Maru Constituency, and backed by 18 out of the 24 members.

During an emergency session convened on Thursday night, the majority of the members reached a consensus to impeach the speaker.

The legislators cited the Speaker’s alleged failure to address the state’s security challenges as the primary reason for his removal, asserting that the House had not taken adequate measures to combat the prevailing insecurity.
