A scary moment brought the match between Carmelo Hayes and Austin Theory to an end on WWE SmackDown.
Former NXT Champion Carmelo Hayes appeared in a backstage segment on the January 12 episode of WWE SmackDown. Nick Aldis teased his interest in signing him to SmackDown, and Hayes was seemingly about to ask for a spot in the Royal Rumble match when they were interrupted by Grayson Waller and Austin Theory. The confrontation set up a match between Hayes and Theory.
Hayes and Theory battled back and forth. However, the bout came to an end after a top-rope spot where both men came crashing down to the mat. Hayes seemingly hit his head, but both men were down, and the referee threw up the “X” sign. The match was called off, but additional details were not immediately clear.
Update: WWE later announced that Hayes and Waller were evaluated for injuries, and though they suffered facial contusions, both will be okay.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
