Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel has turned down a move to Tottenham.

After Tel informed Bayern of his desire to leave the club before the end of the January transfer window, Spurs were quick to make a move for the 19-year-old.

It’s understood that a €60 million (£50.2m) deal between Spurs and Bayern was agreed on Thursday, although the move hinged on whether Tel accepted the offer from Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Sky Germany report that Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, travelled to Munich on Friday in an attempt to convince Tel about a move to Spurs.

However, the report claims that Tel has turned down Tottenham and will now assess alternative options before the transfer window closes on on February 3.

When asked what he had heard about Spurs’ push to sign Tel, Postecoglou said earlier on Friday: ‘Not a great deal.

‘I usually find out at the tail end of this stuff what’s going on. Obviously we’re exploring some opportunities in the last couple of days of the window to see what we can do. But nothing’s across my desk yet.’

Tel’s decision will come as a boost for Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Aston Villa, who are all in the running to sign the French winger before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Chelsea made an approach to sign Tel earlier this month, however, it’s understood that the 19-year-old is reluctant to move to Stamford Bridge due to the strong competition for a place in Enzo Maresca’s attack.

United have also enquired about Tel’s situation but would need to offload Alejandro Garnacho first before making a move. Both Chelsea and Napoli have held talks over a deal for Garnacho this month but United are holding out for a £55m transfer fee.

Arsenal were also linked with Tel this week but Mikel Arteta’s side appear to be prioritising a move for Ollie Watkins, although their £60m bid was rejected by Aston Villa earlier this week.
