Matt Cardona lost at ROH Final Battle, but he says he considers the match a win.
At ROH Final Battle, Cardona challenged Chris Jericho for the ROH World Championship. Big Bill and Bryan Keith interfered, and Jericho emerged victorious.
Matt Cardona took to Twitter and commented on his loss at ROH Final Battle.
“Last night I didn’t get the job done. I failed to beat @IAmJericho for the @ringofhonor World Championship,” Matt Cardona wrote. “But I don’t consider this a loss…I consider it a win. I wrestled one of my childhood favorites…one of, if not the greatest, of all time…on a big stage…and I almost had him beat. I’ll learn from this match…I’ll grow from this match…I’ll get better from this match.”
As of this writing, there is no word on if or when Cardona will return to ROH.
Chris Jericho Praises Matt Cardona
Ahead of ROH Final Battle, Jericho spoke highly of Cardona. During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, he said that Cardona reminded him of Bret Hart.
“Just the fact that we are doing this is special,” Chris Jericho admitted. “The fact that it’s in Hammerstein, with the vibe that is expected. I don’t think anybody expected Matt Cardona to answer this challenge. He’s not an AEW regular. We haven’t seen him a whole lot. Chris Jericho, being the Ring of Honor Champion, two years I did it as the Ocho and here we are again as the Nueve.
“There is a lot going on with Ring of Honor. There is a lot of potential television deals to be talked about and discussed. ‘Ring of Honor has such a wrestling style.’ Wrestling style is selling out venues with a good story and two good characters that people want to see get in the ring. That’s what we’ve done. I’m very happy with this build we’ve created the last three weeks. I don’t think it could have gone better.”
