Matt Hardy says he left AEW because he was looking for more than they were thinking of giving him.

Matt Hardy left AEW in April after his contract expired in March. He has since returned to TNA, but he has not signed a deal there. Hardy has said that he is still in talks with AEW and other “entities”.

Speaking on a live “Ask Matt Anything” edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the veteran was asked to comment on why he had not re-signed with AEW.

“I think the reason that I did not re-sign with AEW initially was because I just want to play a more substantial role in what AEW is doing going forward, especially for me on TV,” Matt Hardy said. “I want to be in something that is important, that is captivating. Because that’s what I want, especially with only a few years left to do this. We talked about some stuff and there were some deals, but it wasn’t quite what I was looking for.

“We’ve talked more, and we still are talking. Talks haven’t ended yet, they haven’t ceased. So I mean, once again, never say never. But I think the reason I left is because I am looking for a little more than I think they were thinking to give me. If they were thinking that was going to make me happy, that’s not necessarily what I was looking for. I still want to be a contributing force on whatever program I am competing for.”
