Long considered one of the greatest hopes in Dutch football, Matthijs De Ligt has struggled to confirm the potential that observers had glimpsed during his time at Ajax Amsterdam. Captain of the team which reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019, the 24-year-old is today at Bayern Munich, a few days away from returning to the semi-finals of the C1 once again, against Real Madrid. Passed by Juventus Turin after his departure from the Netherlands, De Ligt regrets having left Ajax so early, and knows that he will return there one day.

“I played three years in the first team, which is relatively short. I always thought I would play a little longer at Ajax, but the situation looked different for a while. If I ever have the opportunity to come back to Ajax, I would really like to do it. But you never know, of course”indicated the central defender of Bayern Munich on the official Ajax website.
