Maulud Nabiyy: Govs, Remi Tinubu, others preach unity, peace

Nigerians, especially Muslims, have been urged to embrace the essence of the birth of Prophet Muhammad and the values and lessons of the season.

They were also encouraged to allow this significant occasion to serve as a reminder of the values of love, compassion, and tolerance, which are essential for harmonious living in a diverse country like Nigeria.

On Monday, Nigerians joined others in marking Maulud Nabiyy, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

Leading the charge was the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who shared Maulud Nabiyy greetings on Monday.

She said, “I felicitate the Muslim Ummah across our great nation as we celebrate this year’s Maulud Nabiyy, the blessed birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. The occasion reminds us of the values of peace, compassion, and unity that the Prophet exemplified throughout his life. Let us use this opportunity to reflect on his teachings of love, kindness, and tolerance, which will help us build stronger communities and a more harmonious society.”

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, in a congratulatory message signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, urged Muslims to embrace the essence of the birth of the Holy Prophet.

He reminded them to take cognisance of the noble example of peace and hope that the Prophet embodied.

“Prophet Muhammad was a blessing from Allah to mankind as he not only lightens our journey on earth but also serves as an assurance of a better place in the afterlife. As we celebrate the blessing that his birth represents for humanity, I urge all to draw from his timeless wisdom in building a just and harmonious society,” Adeleke said.

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, noted that the occasion serves as a reminder of the values of love, compassion, and tolerance essential for harmonious living in a diverse country like Nigeria.

The governor expressed hope that the celebration would inspire all citizens to embrace peace and understanding, fostering a culture of respect among various religious groups in the state.

He said, “As we celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, let us reflect on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, which emphasise kindness, charity, and respect for one another. It is imperative that we continue to build bridges of understanding and friendship among our different faiths, ensuring that Ogun State remains a beacon of peace and unity.”

He also urged the Muslim faithful to continue praying for the success of his administration and that of President Bola Tinubu, adding that concerted efforts were being made to improve Nigeria.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State greeted the Muslim Ummah and called for a rededication to God’s commandments.

In a press statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the governor said, “This occasion calls for deeper reflection within the human race. I urge the faithful to rededicate themselves to the commandments of Allah, shunning all kinds of mischief that might disrupt public peace and human brotherhood.”

He said the commemoration of Maulud serves as a reminder to lead an impactful life for the good of humanity, urging people to take advantage of the noble messenger’s bequeathed laws, ethics, manners, and relationships with fellow human beings.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, in a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of her office, Eno Olotu, urged Muslims to uphold and embody the Prophet’s timeless virtues of peace, kindness, humility, and selflessness, especially in their daily interactions.

She remarked, “As we commemorate this day, may the blessings of Eid-El-Maulud illuminate your homes and enrich your lives with love, peace, and prosperity.” She further called on the Muslim Ummah to seize this spiritual moment to pray for enduring peace, love, and unity in our collective pursuit of building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

The Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, urged Muslims to reflect on the teachings of the Prophet, emphasising love, compassion, and unity.

In a statement by her Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Nneka Ikem, she said, “As we celebrate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, let us remember the importance of living in harmony with one another and promoting peace in our communities.”

She expressed sympathy for the people of Borno State affected by recent floods and the tragic loss of lives following a boat accident and floods in Zamfara State.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods in Borno and Zamfara states. We call on Nigerians to support the relief efforts and demonstrate the true spirit of unity and solidarity,” the statement read.

Sule Garo, the running mate of the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Kano State for the 2023 election, called on Muslims to reflect on the virtues and values exemplified by Prophet Muhammad, including love for one’s neighbor, patience, honesty, empathy, kindness, and generosity. Garo, who expressed concern over the escalating cost of living in the country, urged Muslims to use Maulud gatherings to intensify prayers for the stability and economic well-being of the country. He also urged leaders at all levels of government to implement measures to alleviate hardship.

The former chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Oyo State chapter, Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, urged Nigerians, especially Muslims, to offer special prayers for the peace, progress, and economic stability of the country. In a statement by his media officer, Dipo Adegoke, in Ibadan, the state capital, Aleshinloye further urged Muslims to use the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth to imbibe and promote the virtues of humility, love, peace, harmony, and mutual coexistence exemplified by the Prophet.

“Let us remember to pray fervently for the economic prosperity of our nation to achieve greater unity and progress among our fellow countrymen and women, irrespective of religion or place of origin, and promote greater development of the nation,” the statement read.

The Chairman of the Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Sulaiman Dederi, in a statement signed by the council’s Secretary, Abubakar Kwaru, said, “Eid Maulud is a time of love and reflection on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, as well as in remembrance of the seal of all prophets, an embodiment of complete humanity.

All Muslim faithful should love one another, regardless of religion, and avoid neglecting the poor by emulating the exemplary character and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.”
