With two assists from Neal Maupay, OM managed to gain the upper hand over RC Lens away (3-1).
The Marseille anomaly continues. Disappointing at home, with only one match won out of five, OM continues to impress away. This Saturday, the Marseille team went for its sixth success away from home (in seven games). A victory gleaned on the Lens pitch with a score of 3-1.
OM runs on diesel
Marseille has therefore imposed itself quite comfortably on northern soil. However, nothing suggested it at the break. De Zerbi’s team was very timid during the first act. Without Geronimo Rulli’s saves, she would have found herself behind at the mark.
But now, the Provençaux were able to weather the storm and come back with better intentions for the second half. A metamorphosis which was verified on the scoreboard very quickly. From the 49e minute, the difference was made thanks to a victorious cross strike from Valentin Rongier. The former Nantes player took advantage of perfect work from Neal Maupay to find himself in an ideal position against Brice Samba.
A decisive passer on the spot, Maupay was again on the second Olympian goal, which came barely eight minutes later (58e). This time, it was at the conclusion of an express counter that the former Brighton player was able to deliver his offering. It was Luis Henrique who found himself at the finish. Calmly, the Brazilian was able to arm his shot and secure the break in favor of his team.
A very lively end to the match
It was 2-0 and we thought Lens was groggy with these two blows. The Artesians still managed to fight back. Ten minutes from time, Angelo Fulgini revived them by narrowing the score. But the joy of the locals did not last too long. At the 88e minute, and after being denied the equalizer for a prior foul, the Lensois conceded a third goal. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg crucified them with a free kick.
Gervais Martel, the iconic former president of the RCL, was celebrated before kick-off but he was probably hoping for a different kind of tribute. With this 3e misstep of the season, Lens falls to 8e place in the ranking. OM, for its part, consolidates its 3e rank, and is sure to remain there at the end of this championship day.
