Even at 39, Silva continues to be one of the better players at Stamford Bridge, with his experience and leadership invaluable to Pochettino’s rebuild of the club.

Aside from a few poor moments, the legendary centre-back has continued to perform well in what is proving to be another difficult season for the Blues, with the side 10th in the Premier League, 12 points off the top-four.

Though they are still in both domestic cups, they suffered an embarrassing defeat to Championship Middlesbrough in the first-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

In spite of this, it is not clear where the future lies for Silva with his current deal up at the end of the season, and there is talk he could hang up his boots.

The Brazil star has previously acknowledged that ‘the end is approaching’, though has also notably said that he would like to stay in London where his family have settled, with his two sons currently playing for Chelsea’s academy.

An answer on the matter does not appear to coming soon however, as Pochettino says that neither he nor the club are interested in discussing new deals for anyone while the side are underperforming.

Asked in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash against Fulham, the manager was asked if he, Silva or Chelsea had made a decision on the defender’s future.

‘At the moment, we are not talking with players. I don’t believe the club is talking,’ Pochettino replied.

‘In my opinion, it’s a moment now to work together to try and perform and get the results we want.

‘That will be between the player and the club to decide what is the best for both sides and the future. At the moment, I don’t believe [so].’

The Argentine was also coy on the future of David Datro Fofana, with the young striker set to join Burnley on loan have been recalled from Union Berlin after an awful half-season there.

‘The club are dealing with this situation. I’m sure we will announce when something happens. I cannot say at the moment,’ he said on the matter.
