It’s a good day to be a Maxton Hall fan – Season 2 has finished shooting and buzz is building about a possible Season 3.
Speaking on the second day of the Seriesly event in Berlin, Christoph Schneider, Country Director at Prime Video Germany and Austria, was quizzed by Deadline’s Jesse Whittock and dished the latest on Maxton Hall – The World Between Us.
The young adult-skewed show is Amazon Prime Video’s biggest ever international program. Schneider revealed that producers had to work around super fans who rushed to the set as season 2 was being filmed in Germany. Production wrapped last week.
“It was shot in a castle near Hanover, which is not a secret anymore,” he added. “It was really challenging to shoot season 2 because so many fans were there every day trying to take photographs, but the plot was top secret, so it was really a challenge for the team.”
The show is produced by UFA and based on Mona Kasten’s book trilogy. Asked why it had popped, Scheider said: “We had a great IP, it was brilliantly made, we had a great — and not just the two main actors, who are outstanding, but also the others. Everyone was really great, and that made this a unicorn show. The good news is we have three seasons.”
While it appeared he had confirmed a third run of the show, Amazon reps have subsequently played this down. A spokesperson confirmed the streamer has options on all three books, but said there is not yet a confirmed season 3 production order. The show’s producers have previously told Deadline of their wish for three seasons and the huge success of the series makes that likely.
Schneider described that internally, the show is considered brand-defining for Amazon at a local and international level. Schneider said the success of a show can usually be gauged over 30 days, but Maxton defies that logic and has continued to add viewers. “You could really see the excitement and that’s a rare unicorn. Fortunately we found it,” he added.
