Passengers on a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus in Orile, Lagos, were attacked and robbed by street thugs on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. as the bus traveled from Mile 2 to CMS. Dare Abiola, a victim and eyewitness, described how the attackers, disguised as protesters against the recent motorcycle seizures by the task force, ambushed the bus near the Alafia bus stop, in front of an NNPC fuel station.

The thugs smashed the BRT’s windshield and windows before forcibly taking passengers’ belongings. Abiola recounted that they threatened him with a broken bottle before he surrendered his bag and phone. The attack lasted 20 to 30 minutes, with no security intervention, leaving passengers defenseless.

Abiola later reported the incident to the Orile police station. However, Lagos State Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin stated that he had not yet received details of the attack. The incident has heightened concerns about commuter safety in Lagos, especially in unrest-prone areas.
