Kylian Mbappé revealed that his “idols” Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane had inspired his dream of joining Real Madrid.

Mbappé almost joined Madrid in 2022 before finally taking the plunge two years later, but he now said that he was also close to signing for the club when he was a child.

He also revealed that it was his idolatry for these two players in particular who aroused his love for the club.

Mbappé said: ” I dream every day to play here. Zidane was my idol, I started thanks to him. This club has an aura, it's the best in the world. Since Cristiano's arrival, I have followed all the matches; It was my other idol. I met Zidane here at 13 years old. I spent a week in Valdebebas and I could only speak to Zidane because I was not talking about a language other than French. I had the opportunity to stay, but it was not possible because of my family. I couldn't come alone. »»

Zizou inspired Kylian Mbappé

After discreet beginnings, Mbappé flourished in Madrid. He scored 33 goals in 51 appearances this season and is the second top scorer in the Liga behind Robert Lewandowski.

Mbappé is expected to lead the Real Madrid attack to Arsenal on Tuesday, during the first leg of the Champions League quarter -finals. This match will be followed by a trip to Alavés this weekend, then the return match against the Gunners in Madrid.
