Kylian Mbappé opened his goal account with Real Madrid in his very first match with the Merengues, Wednesday in the European Super Cup against Atalanta.
A month after his Cristiano Ronaldo-worthy presentation at the Bernabéu, Kylian Mbappé made his official debut with Real Madrid and found the back of the net on Wednesday night in Warsaw (Poland), during the European Super Cup won against Atalanta. The new superstar of the Merengues has started his Madrid adventure perfectly by opening his goal counter, he who remains on a disappointing Euro, marked by a broken nose that completely shattered him (for a poor record of one goal scored, from a penalty).
Following Federico Valverde’s opening goal on the hour mark (59th), the Uruguayan midfielder broke the deadlock for the Spanish and European champions with a perfect pass from Vinicius, and two other stars of the team made the difference. On a ball recovered from Rodrygo, Jude Bellingham, on the left, looked for and found Mbappé at the penalty spot for a shot that beat the Dea goalkeeper, Juan Musso (68th). He was able to do his usual celebration, imitated by his new teammates!
Mbappé after Benzema and Giroud
The Merengue crowd, who came in large numbers to the Polish capital, in a magnificent national stadium, warmly celebrated their new number 9, the rest of the stadium also being won over to the cause of Real. Mbappé was replaced to cheers 10 minutes from the end (83rd), he who had only one week of preparation under his belt. Next match and debut in La Liga: Sunday in Mallorca.
Mbappé had never played in a UEFA Super Cup and therefore entered the history of this competition with a single participation. The captain of the Blues becomes the 7th French scorer in the European Super Cup after Jean-Pierre Papin in 1994, Djibril Cissé in 2005, Franck Ribéry in 2013, Kévin Gameiro in 2015, Karim Benzema in 2018 and 2022 and Olivier Giroud in 2019.
