Meghan Markle’s longtime friend Lindsay Jill Roth surprised the royal with a special dedication in her new book.
“She hasn’t read her acknowledgement yet,” Roth told People about her secret message for Markle, 43, in “Romances & Practicalities: A Love Story (Maybe Yours!) in 250 Questions,” which was published on Jan. 28.
“Meghan Sussex, Meg, to be sisters by choice, still thinking the same thing at the same time after all these years — no matter how many miles between us — is my favorite part of our unbreakable bond,” Roth wrote to her pal in the acknowledgement.

I carry your heart (I carry it in my heart).”
Roth, who met Markle during freshmen year at Northwestern University, told the outlet that she didn’t share the dedication message with Markle prior to the book’s release.
“I have saved that as a little token for her to see when the book comes out. I think it’s rare to find friends who love you unconditionally, and I’ve been lucky in my life to have a few who I truly consider family. It’s almost like those words aren’t enough,” Roth explained.

Roth has always been vocal about her support for her longtime friend. In 2021, Roth defended the Duchess of Sussex after Markle’s former aides accused her of bullying. Roth said Markle has “always” operated from a place of “kindness” and “goodwill.”
“I know this to be true after 22 years of very close friendship. I have seen firsthand how she treats her friends and their families, and her colleagues,” she wrote at the time.
“If she’s driving with you in the passenger seat, she will fling her right arm in front of you at the slightest bump in a gesture of love to ensure your safety. If you have a specific goal, she will help you get there, and your passions will become hers on your behalf.

“She was this woman when we were students together at Northwestern University; she was this woman in Los Angeles when her days were spent auditioning; she was this woman living in Toronto as Rachel Zane on ‘Suits;’ she was this woman before you knew she was dating Harry; she was this woman after you knew was dating Harry; she was this woman when she became Duchess of Sussex and she is still — without a doubt — this very same woman today.”
Markle was Roth’s maid of her honor at her 2016 wedding to Brit Gavin Jordan. Roth is believed to be one of Prince Archie’s godmothers.
