Liverpool captain, Virgil Van Dijk, could well live his last months in the Reds jersey. At the end of the contract at the end of the season, the Dutch defender would be attracted by the idea of joining a legendary club according to a well -informed former teammate.
Van Dijk, uncertain future in Liverpool
Virgil Van Dijk, a centerpiece of Liverpool since his arrival in January 2018 for 84.5 million euros – a record at the time for the club -, today seems to a turning point in his career. Despite his 302 games played with the Reds, including the last this last Thursday against Tottenham, his future in Anfield is more vague than ever. Club management is slow to secure the extension of its executives, notably Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah, also at the end of the contract next June. This inertia raises questions among the club supporters and observers, especially in the face of the lusts which the Dutch captain is the subject.
Van Dijk ready to go see elsewhere?
Real Madrid, but not just
It was José Fonte, former teammate of Van Dijk in Southampton, who threw a pavement in the pond by speaking on the future of the defender. According to him, Van Dijk dreams of joining emblematic clubs such as Real Madrid, but also FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich. “Virgil van Dijk would flourish in Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich. I would not be surprised to see him in one of these clubs next season ”, entrusted Fonte to AS.
For Fonte, the Dutchman still has several years at the highest level ahead of him. “He can still play at the highest level for three or four years. These clubs are looking for defenders as reliable as Van Dijk, and everyone will watch if he ends the season without extending their contract. ”
Liverpool in front of a dilemma
With several executives at the end of the contract, the Liverpool board must act quickly to avoid an exodus of its pillars. But if the discussions do not succeed, Van Dijk could well swap the legendary red jersey for that of another European giant from next summer.
