Mercedes Mone, who was known as Sasha Banks during her time in WWE, has become a significant figure in the wrestling world. Recently, she accused Vince McMahon of speaking disrespectfully to her while she was in WWE.
Mone, along with Naomi, left WWE in 2022 due to creative differences with Vince McMahon while they were holding the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Their exit led to an indefinite suspension from WWE SmackDown and a wave of criticism.
During an interview on The Breakfast Club, Mercedes Mone explained her departure from WWE, highlighting personal issues she faced, particularly with Vince McMahon. She felt uncomfortable with how he communicated with her, often feeling talked down to, which contributed to her decision to leave.
Mone shared that she experienced a moment of clarity that urged her to follow her instincts and prioritize her well-being. She recognized the importance of standing up for herself after years in the company, believing that her experience was significant enough to warrant a change.
“I left for many different reasons. A lot of personal stuff happened with myself and the Chairman at the time. I didn’t like how he talked to me and how I was talked down to. I was like, ‘It’s time to listen to your soul and your heart.’ There was a light that came to me and I left WWE. A guide told me.
When asked about the allegations against McMahon, she stated that she wasn’t informed about the legal matters. However, she did confirm that his way of speaking to her was problematic, reinforcing her decision to step away in search of a better path for herself.
““I’m not the lawyer. I don’t know. Yeah, a little crazy. That day he talked to me a little crazy. It was enough for my source of light to come into my body and go, ‘If you stay, that’s not okay. This is for the rest of your life. What are you going to teach your kids? What are you going to teach people?’ If you’re feeling like this from words, after being here for ten years, you have to stand up for yourself.’ That’s what I did. A light came to me and said, ‘You have to walk away and do something better for yourself.'”
Mercedes Mone has also addressed possibly returning to WWE eventually. For now, Mone is focused on being the TBS Champion and NJPW Women’s STRONG Champion and that’s all that matters to her, especially now that Vince McMahon is no longer in her life.
