Mercedes Moné is thankful for the opportunity to compete inside an AEW ring.

During the AEW Double or Nothing post-show media scrum, Mercedes Moné was asked to comment on how it felt to return to the ring after she suffered a career-threatening injury. Moné said that AEW saved her, and the company gave her new opportunities to expand her career.

“How did it finally feel after a year of being away from something that I’ve loved since I was a little girl? Wrestling has not only changed my life, but saved my life,” Mercedes Moné stated. “Coming here to AEW has saved my life. It’s given me new hopes, new dreams, new chances, new opportunities. And tonight, being here in AEW, celebrating five years of AEW, being here with Willow, who is legit one of the greatest women I’ve ever stepped into the ring with, wow.

“I’ve been doing this for 14 years, and she is legit one of the best, amazing. It feels so incredible. I’ve been waiting for this moment, really ever since I got signed to AEW,” she continued. “But really for the past two years of not knowing where I was going to be, what was going to happen after leaving WWE, what was going to be next for me.”

Where the best wrestle

Moné said many people believe WWE is the place to be. However, they proved that it’s not the only place to be on Sunday night.

“AEW is where the best wrestle. And we had the greatest show tonight celebrating five years of this incredible company. [We] showed we cannot be denied,” she added. “We are going to show wrestling fans around the world that this is the place to celebrate wrestling because this is the best place to be. It feels amazing.”

Mercedes also said she was medically cleared in December 2023; read more about her thoughts on delaying her in-ring return until Double Or Nothing here.

Mercedes Moné and Sasha Banks aren’t the same performer

Mercedes Moné spoke with Cameron Hawkins of The Ringer ahead of Double Or Nothing. When asked about her decision to leave WWE, Moné said the only way she could grow was to change her surroundings. Moné said she was prepared to show the world a side they’ve never seen before.

“They haven’t really got to see the CEO,” Mercedes explained confidently. “They know who Sasha Banks is. But the CEO, Mercedes Moné, [is] something they’ve never seen before, and I’m ready to show them. I’m the greatest women’s wrestler of all time, 100 percent.”
